Let's talk about Cancer Recovery.

43% of Canadians will be diagnosed with Cancer in their lifetime. Over the last 25 years the most common types of Cancers are: Breast, Prostate, Lung, and Colorectal. T
hankfully, due to research and development, many cancers are now treatable.

The treatments can vary depending on the size and stage of the cancer. Sometimes radical surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy are necessary. Some patients are also candidates for immunotherapy. Unfortunately, these treatments come with some side effects that can be difficult to handle. Medications, (sometimes multiple medications), can be prescribed for these symptoms, however, these medications can cause other side effects. While going through cancer treatment, it is imperative that patients are able to sleep, eat, digest, and eliminate properly so it is really important that the symptoms are not ignored.

I'm here to tell you that there are other options available to manage these side effects!

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine have tools to help:
  • Acupuncture needles are used to balance the nervous system so that healing can happen. Healing is not possible in the sympathetic state (fight or flight mode). These tiny needles are gently placed into the affected meridian to communicate with the brain and fix the symptom: pain, insomnia, constipation, etc.
  • Moxabustion is a herb that has been shown to have infrared properties when burned. This means the heat penetrates deeply into the body. It is very helpful for nausea, as well as loss of appetite, fatigue, and diarrhea.
  • Fire cupping can be helpful for sore muscles, static heat, or inflammation.
  • Electro acupuncture is used to restore feeling and function to areas of the body that have gone numb.
  • Tui Na is used to move Qi and release stagnation from the body.
  • Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine Formulas are prescribed to deal with many of the same symptoms as above.

So, what does the process look like?

We would book you in for a comprehensive initial intake appointment. I ask all sorts of questions about your symptoms, you body, your emotions, and your lifestyle. I will take your pulse and even have a quick look at your tongue. Based on all of this information, a treatment plan is designed just for you! Follow up appointments are booked weekly whilst undergoing treatment.
